Dinner @ Rancho Fiesta

This is one of two restaurants owned by Lorenzo Sanchez, with the first restaurant being located in Mansfield. Even though I'm positive there are unrelated owners involved, Rancho Fiesta has a very similar atmosphere to La Charrita and Mi Tequila: brightly colored dining areas, Mexican songs playing in the background, a standard menu of quesadillas, burritos, fajitas, etc. I found the service to be polite and helpful. They didn't serve horchata, but he entertained my inquiry about it.

The entree that evening was the Quesadilla Suprema. From the menu, this quesadilla provides a "flour tortilla grilled and stuffed with cheese, beef tips, and beans. Served with lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream." The entree was priced at $7.69, which seems to be the norm around town for a dinner plate. It was large, and I would be willing to say filling for most people.

Without asking the server, I would surmise the cheese was Queso Blanco, as it was mild, soft and creamy. That, incorporated with the beans and the beef tips, made the dish mild overall. Fortunately, there is a salsa picante at the table called "Tapatío," which added just enough heat to the dish. A creamy texture with a hot flavor, I enjoyed that.

I rarely get desserts, but was tempted by the sopapilla ad on the table. It will satisfy any sweet tooth. On top of the fried dough is honey, chocolate syrup, whipped cream and cinnamon and sugar. I know one person who would dismiss it as too sweet, but I ate that dessert faster than you could say "check, please!" If it is any consolation to the food critic purists, I was able to pick out all of the flavors presented in the dish. ;)

Would I come back? I think so. I do have the impression I could come back, have a few drinks, and enjoy myself as I would at La Charrita or Mi Tequila.

I love this place! The food is awesome, the servings are huge, and if you show up on your birthday they'll make you wear a sombrero, sing to you, and take your picture to go up on the wall by the front doors.

The huge mugs of beer and margaritas make this a good place to go after work, or to meet up with friends, too. And-ALL THE TORTILLA CHIPS YOU CAN EAT! YAY!

MMM the queso here is amazing. But, just to let you know, real Mexican food isn't spicey. Plus, a lot of "white people" don't like hot food. Whenever my Grandmother would cook us chorizo and eggs, it was never spicey ;D

I've heard it both ways, Charlotte. Enough times, actually, just to provide details on the dish alone.

I happen to like dishes spicy, but not so overpowering other flavors are lost (e.g. using level 14 hot sauce at Buffalo Wild Wings) and found the salsa picante to provide that.

The chorizo con huevos I've had before isn't spicy. So, I treat the chorizo as I would Italian sausage and just add pepper. That way, you're not overpowering the egg, but still have heat and the spice from the chorizo.

Yes, as a general rule, Midwesterners do not like hot dishes. That's why I think Thai and Indian restaurants feel the need to pull their punches in this area of the country. Your breath should be able to light a match on fire after you eat vindaloo.

We Love this place. I'm originally from Kansas and miss the mexican food we have down that way. This is the best around here that I've found. I just wish someone around here made Fried Flour shell tacos like back home...sigh. Anyway...I really enjoy Rancho Fiesta. We try to go at off times when they aren't busy and have had consistently good service and quality food.
