Lunch @ FoodTopia

The webmaster of Findlay Eats Out! and I decided to have lunch at FoodTopia not too long ago. When I first heard of it, no real food category came to mind. If it weren't for the gyro picture on the window, I wouldn't have known anything until I read the menu.

To get it up and running, the restaurant was opened without much in the way of decor. After speaking with the main operator of the establishment (Deena), they are still throwing around ideas. Since the idea of Greek designs aren't quite popular, I'll throw the suggestion aside. There are more tables set up than I anticipated, but it wasn't packed. I think that was due to the reliance on word of mouth advertising. I can see that. Advertising isn't cheap, especially if you do business with the Findlay Courier.

My first impression of the menu was "lunch." Wraps, patty melts, grilled cheese, egg salad sandwiches are all what I would anticipate as lunch foods. I'm not saying you can't have an egg salad sandwich for breakfast or dinner. You do what you want. Rather, I'd find it more typical of the American lunch. Indeed, during the conversation with Deena, she mentioned having dinner specials later on (i.e lasagna or steak). I'll take that as vindication.
Considering I'm a gyro junkie, I opted for it. $4.50 isn't too bad a price, in my opinion. While fast food burgers are cheaper, I'd much rather have this.

I found the gyro to be OK. The meat wasn't gritty like it can be and there was plenty of tzatziki sauce to cover the dish. The menu states it comes with onion, however I didn't notice any. I find that fortunate, as a pungent onion would ruin it. Was it the best I've ever had? No, but I'll take it for four dollars and fifty cents. There was also a side dish of Greek fries, served with Parmesan and pepper. I think they would have been better with feta. While I like Potato Skins as chips, I don't want my Greek fries to taste like them.

The one hitch about FoodTopia is it's on the far south end of town. That area slips my mind more times than I'd like to admit. In the future, I'd like to go back for lunch though. That image seems to suit it well for right now.
